Do not send in multiple recordings of each scene. Please send only three audio files—one for each scene.

For the role, you’ll be the Narrator and all the characters.

The Main Characters
Olivia the main character. She is 28 years old and often uses sarcasm and sharp retorts to hide her soft interior. She is attracted to Trevor but doesn’t want to risk getting attached. She and Trevor used to be close a long time ago but have drifted apart.
Trevor is the male love interest. He is 28 years old and has a flirty, cocky exterior, but it’s not heavy handed. He’s just a bit sassy. And he is head over heels in love with Olivia and is trying very hard to hide it.
Below are three short excerpts from the novel. Each one will give you a chance to work with a variety of characters.
Please only read the scenes that are tagged with the character you are auditioning for. Good luck, have fun, and thank you for auditioning!
Sides for Olivia
- Olivia Bathroom Scene: Olivia has just broken up with her boyfriend. Her friends Megan and Annie are happy about the breakup and want her to go out partying with them. Megan is more sympathetic to the ex than Annie is.
Her ruminations must have been all over her face, because Megan was narrowing her eyes at her. Taken aback by her normally bubbly friend’s serious expression, she asked, “What? What’s the matter?”
Megan brandished a tube of lip gloss at her, and she threw up her hands in submission.
“Do not text him tonight. David is a nice guy, but you’re doing this to figure out what you want. Remember?”
Just then, Olivia’s phone chirped from her pocket. Still focused on her reflection, Annie muttered, “Speak of the devil…”
- Olivia Cupcake Scene: Olivia is talking with Trevor. They are friends but always in competition. Trevor made cupcakes that are delicious, and he knows it. It is killing Olivia to admit how good they are.
She arched an eyebrow as he got closer.
“Wow. Tired of the attention already?”
“Are you jealous that everyone wants a piece of me?” he asked with a shit-eating grin. She barked a laugh.
“They just want your cupcakes, dumbass!”
He put his hands on his hips and cocked his head towards hers. Honey dripped from his tongue.
“How is the cupcake, Olivia?”
She closed her eyes, pained and internally fuming. He was really going to make her say it. Oh, this was going to hurt.
“It’s…excellent.”
- Olivia Dinner Scene: Olivia and Trevor are having a business dinner together. Olivia is teasing him playfully.
Olivia met his dazzling green eyes with a disbelieving smirk.
“You are King Flirt of Flirt Mountain. It’s impossible for you not to love bomb someone,” she jabbed. Trevor leaned closer as if he hadn’t heard her.
“Did you just call me King Flirt?”
He looked so confused that she couldn’t help laughing.
“Did you not know we called you that?” she asked, eyes gleaming with diabolical relish.
“Who called me that! No one called me that!” he laughed. Unconsciously, she smiled wider. She had always liked his laugh. It was light and, honestly, kind of joyful. She pressed her chin into her palm and smirked at him.
Sides for Trevor
- Trevor Kitchen Scene: Trevor is hungover at his parents house on Christmas morning. He had been playing drinking games with his older sister all night. The atmosphere is homey and comical—warm holiday cheer vibes.
“Moooom,” he groaned at a short, plump woman who was fussing over the stove. Spatula in hand, she muttered something about eggs but didn’t respond to him. Trevor pouted. He was dying, and she didn’t even notice. He barked, “Mom!”
Jumping with fright, the spatula flew through the air as his mom yelled, “Ah!” Whipping around to eyeball her youngest son, she snapped, “Trevor! You could have given me a heart attack!”
He moaned pathetically, “Mom, I’m dying.” Then he let out a soft, high-pitched, “My heaaaaad!” as a large hand ruffled his hat, effectively clanging his brain against his skull. This was misery. He would never drink again.
- Trevor Car Ride Scene: Olivia (the female love interest) and Trevor are driving in a car after having not seen each other in years. The mood is a bit tense. He is trying to lighten the mood.
“Sooo, how are you, Olivia?” he asked, realizing that neither of them had spoken since he had started driving. Her reply was sharp.
“Great, Trevor! You?”
He chuckled.
“What?” she asked, vexed. He replied affably, “Oh, it’s just so good to see that you’re still the same ‘you’ll never take me alive,’ Olivia.”
“And what is that supposed to mean?” she snapped, eyes narrowed.
“Just that you’ve always…”
Pausing to consider his next words, he saw her expression darken. With a melodramatic shrug, he quickly added, “You’ve always worked to be invulnerable.”
- Trevor Ice Cream Scene: Trevor and Olivia are getting ice cream after an awkward dinner together. Trevor is being mostly friendly with slightly flirty undertones. Olivia is a little guarded at first but quickly warms ups throughout the conversation.
Trevor asked, “What was that stupid rat thing you smuggled into the dorms freshman year?”
Olivia cackled a beautiful ugly laugh and clapped a hand to her mouth.
“Priscilla! Oh my god, Priscilla Beatrice Johnson! She was not a rat! She was a gerbil, you ignorant ass!”
“Ahh, yes. Priscilla,” he shivered. “Freaky little thing.”
“She was a great pet. And she kept annoying people out of my room,” she smiled pointedly in his direction. He clapped a hand to his heart.
“Ugh, I’m wounded!”
“Good,” she grinned around her ice cream. He cast her a judgmental glance.
“Didn’t you lose her?”
“No, no. Temporarily misplaced,” she corrected him with a raised finger. He chortled at her wiggly word play.
Thank you for auditioning! We will try to let you know as soon as possible if you’ve been booked for the role.
