It Really Exceeded Expectations

Today, I had a signing event in Brooklyn, MI. I wasn’t really expecting to selling many books—if any. Unlike my reading at Papers & Parchment, there were no friends coming to cheer me on. I literally know no one in Brooklyn.

But Stacy at The Talebearer Bookstore was a wonderful host. I got to spend an afternoon with bunnies hopping around the shop and talking about books. This was a lucky day for me, because The Talebearer had a good amount of foot traffic.

It was a very coquettish store—really, really cottagecore in a delightful way.

I ended up selling five books in about two hours. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty pleased with that. I also got to talk to a lot of people, and that was maybe the best marketing I’ve ever done for my books.

Talking with the customers about what they like reading, not just my book, actually led to some unexpected purchases. One man, N., and I had a great conversation about sci-fi (I recommended that he try Helen Phillip’s Hum), community theater, and board games.

And then N. ended up buying my contemporary romance. Turns out he’s a romantic at heart.

It was an adorable moment.

You know what. I am tooting my own horn. This was a good day.
